This cartoon reminded me of the famous Tea Party T-shirt with the slogan made even more infamous when Sarah Palin repeated it: So, how’s the whole “hopey-changey” thing working for you?
Sometimes we all want to poke fun at change, no matter how much we have to accept that it has arrived, wanted or not. Kind of like conference technology and online social networking — you know, Facebook, Twitter, MeCo, and all of that stuff.
Well, I hate to be the one to tell you if you’re not a geek, but … it’s here, it’s not going away, and it’s going to keep changing. And it’s also good because trade shows, conferences, and meetings won’t go away. We all need to keep learning (as do our attendees), which means adding online conferences — event webcasts, live streaming to virtual audiences, and other hybrid meetings. But, bottom line, everyone still wants the old face-to-face, at least once a year. (Hey, what are all those people with laptops doing at the coffee shop anyway? They could be doing the same thing at home, alone.)
