Here’s how I realized Old Navy makes the perfect pants for planners: I was wearing my new candy apple red Pixie midrisers to work when Director of Meetings and Events for Connect Marketplace Angie Ahrens, CMP, stopped me near her desk. (And no, Old Navy is not sponsoring this post, nor does it know of my obsession.)

“Did you get those at Old Navy?” she asked. “Yes!” I said too enthusiastically. Then, for the next 20 minutes (OK, maybe it was longer than that), we discussed the myriad ways these pants have impressed us. She mentioned how she looked around at a conference of fellow event planners, and five other planners were wearing the same Old Navy pants but in different colors. Ahrens and I soon dubbed them the perfect planner pants. Here are our top three reasons why:

  1. Creature comforts.
  2. These pants are seriously some of the most comfortable I’ve ever had. Ahrens agrees: “They fit well on all body types… I’ve seen it!” she says. The fabric has some give, but they look structured simultaneously. This makes them look fancy but still feel cozy.
  3. Versatility, utility, and adaptability.
  4. As someone who often drops food or drinks on my pants at events, these are practically Teflon-coated. Everything I spill scrubs right off. Other than that, they go with almost anything. “Dress them up with a button-down and a jacket for business wear or dress them down with a staff polo and running shoes. They work both ways,” agrees Ahrens. “Not to mention, they come in every color and pattern available. I have maroon, polka dot, floral, and black—inexpensive.”
  5. They travel beautifully.
  6. In “Steel Magnolias,” Annelle (Daryl Hannah) says, “It’s in the ‘Freezes Beautifully’ section of my cookbook.” I think of that line because Pixie pants should be in the “Travels Beautifully” section of any frequent flier’s handbook. It takes a lot to wrinkle these pants. “I roll them in my suitcase, and they are ready to wear. Even when I switch from boots over my pants to heels, there aren’t creases,” says Ahrens.
