Gravity roller conveyors allow a product to be moved on rollers by using gravity. Gravity conveyors can be one of the most affordable and simple types of material handling system. The product is allowed to roll across the top surface. Mounted on a slight slope, the parts start moving along the rollers. These are perfect for warehouses or production centers.
The majority of rollers used in these conveyor systems have a diameter between 1.5 and 1.9 inches. There are also 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch diameters available for extreme-duty applications. Online ordering and configuration is easy. They are lightweight and can be used for temporary or permanent purposes. There are also permanent floor supports and temporary tripod-style stands. Roller curve units can be used for corners.
What are the types of roller conveyors?
We are a leading manufacturer of roller conveyors. We can configure a gravity roller conveyor system for your needs. Gravity roller conveyors are also known as roller conveyor tables, or roller conveyor frames. Even though there isn’t a belt, we hear people call for a “roller belt conveyor”. All of these descriptions are referring to the simple system shown below. Here are some more details about the different types of roller conveyors:
Gravity Roller Conveyor It is the most popular type. This type has no motors.
Gravity Conveyor belt. Roller conveyors are often referred to as Gravity Conveyor Belts. They have no belt.
Powered Roller Conveyor. These systems use motors to power the conveyor rollers suppliers. Motor driven roller conveyors and chain driven live roller are the two main types. Click on the links below to visit the pages that are dedicated to these two types of conveyors.
A belt-driven roller conveyer is an alternative in which the rollers are powered by a rubber belt. These conveyors are most common in curves.
Line-shaft roller conveyor. A belt-driven roller conveyor is another variation.
Heavy Duty Roller Conveyors. They are roller conveyors with roller diameters between 2.5″ and 3.5″. These are rare as conveyors that carry heavy loads usually have motors.
What to consider when selecting a Gravity Roller Conveyor System
We have a large selection of products available for purchase and ready to be shipped. Consider these factors when choosing the right system for you:
The diameter of the rollers. The standard diameters are 1.5″, 1,9″, 2,5″ and 3.5″. Larger rollers are more expensive, even though they can handle more weight. Consider using 1.5″ diameter rollers to handle most light loads (100 lbs product weight).
Frame type. We use a powder coated steel. Some models come with aluminum frames and rollers. Steel is the best option unless weight reduction is a priority. Every roller size has its own frame size. Low-profile systems, such as 1.5″ diameter roller systems, take up little space.
The length of each section of a conveyor or roller table. Roller conveyors are available in 5, 8, or 10 foot sections. Shipping costs are higher for longer sections, which cost less per foot. For longer spans, such as 10 foot sections, a leg stand or center support may be required.
The width of the belt conveyor. The distance between two conveyor frames is usually used to measure this. Conveyors are used to move the load over the rollers. If required, side guides are available to hold the load. If needed, the load can also extend beyond the side frames. Standard models are slightly higher in height than the side frames.
The roller spacing (generally 1.5, 3, 4, 4.5 or six inches apart) required.

Roller conveyors can be ordered in straight or curved configurations.
Guide to choosing the right roller conveyor
This simple guide will help you select the right model of conveyor:
You can choose the width of your conveyor based on product dimensions. Clearance should be at least one inch per side. Consider using wider widths and side guides, if your product is prone to sliding sideways.
Decide the length you require. You can connect lengths of up to 10 feet. To achieve the desired layout, add curved sections.
Use the load rating chart to determine the maximum load that each roller can handle. Use light duty 1.5” rollers for product loads under 100 pounds. For loads above 100 pounds, use medium duty 1.9″ rollers and frames. For extreme heavy loads, heavy duty conveyors with 2.5”, 2- 9/16” or 3.5′” rollers are available.
If required, choose support centers for the legs of the conveyor. Support all loads at intervals of 5, 8 or 10 feet.

The standard configuration of these conveyors is “Rollers set high” (see image). Standard configuration for these conveyors is “Rollers high”. The rollers are set high when the top of the rollers is higher than the frame of the conveyor. This is where the product extends over the side of the conveyor.

Skatewheel Conveyors
The Skatewheel Gravity Conveyor System is similar to a gravity roller system. The rollers, however, are skatewheel-style rollers mounted on wheels. This allows flat-bottomed objects to be transported smoothly. These systems are low-cost, but they can handle lighter loads. The frames of the skatewheel gravity conveyors are made from steel or aluminum. Also, there are many different lengths and sizes. The skatewheel conveyors are very effective at moving tote bags. Other names for roller track rails include flowrail, skatewheel rails or roller track. Racks often use these smaller sections of the skatewheel-style systems.
Roller Stands
The roller conveyor can be used as a roller stand for light duty. These systems are popular for working with sheet materials. These systems are commonly used to feed material into or out from cutting saws. These tables are also known as roller stand conveyors or roller conveyor tables.
Gravity Conveyor Security
Do not stand on or close to a gravity roller system. You will fall down and suffer serious injuries because of the low friction bearings.
Heavy loads can accelerate and continue to accelerate! Plan and test the safest use of decline sections with heavy loads.
When designing systems, be careful to avoid creating pinch points between loads and the rack or conveyor structure. Particularly between the load structure and the rack or the conveyor structure.
The Canadian Center for Occupational Health and Safety has provided some information about conveyor safety.
Roller conveyor intergration with larger systems
Roller conveyors are used in many industrial and distribution centers. Roller conveyors are affordable, but lack the ability to control movement. You can incorporate them into larger material handling systems with careful design. You can, for example, use roller conveyors to connect two electric belts. Use a gravity roller between two motorized MDR conveyers.
Gravity conveyors are generally limited by the variation of the load. Take into account both the size and weight variations of each item. Gravity conveyors pitched at 5 degrees may be ideal for small, light packages. When a heavier or larger load is placed on the rollers it can speed up out of control. Pallet rollers and heavy-duty roller conveyors require careful design. These rollers can be used as brakes to help in these situations. For super heavy loads, live rollers (motorized powered rolls) are the most common solution.
These systems are not only very cost-effective, but also highly flexible. They can be easily moved and rearranged due to their flexibility. Pre-punched holes are included in all systems at 3” 4.5′” and 6′ centres. The roller spacing can be adjusted whenever necessary.
We do not sell roller conveyor components. Instead, we are proud to be the lowest-cost producer of high-quality systems. These savings are passed on to you and we can sell directly at great prices. Used conveyor systems are very competitive.
Do I need to buy a used roller conveyor?
When you consider all the factors, it is not worth buying used roller conveyors on eBay. You are buying direct from the manufacturer when you buy new roller conveyors. There is no middleman or distributor involved. You may not be able to get the exact size, width, or length of rollers you require when you buy used gravity rollers. Buying new systems that have been properly packaged can be a good option, as they are difficult to ship and are quite large. The majority of used systems are damaged either by disassembly, or because they were not packaged properly to ship to you.
We provide systems to some of the biggest manufacturers in the industry. We design, manufacture and assemble automation equipment and assembly conveyers for facilities of any size. Our company is owned by a woman with over 30 years’ experience. We are uniquely qualified to meet your material handling needs, no matter how complex they may be. We are one the world’s leading manufacturers of gravity roller conveyors. We can provide you with a complete turnkey solution from the beginning.
