The Royal Sonesta Hotel Houston is celebrating its first anniversary with a $25 million interior renovation. The hotel’s 485 guest rooms, 50,000 square feet of meeting and event space, rooftop swimming pool, lobby, and food and beverage outlets are all part of the project. “The design will encourage our guests to look at Houston from a different point of view,” says General Manager Monte Hansen. “Many aspects of the renovation, from the sculptural light fixtures to the contemporary lobby and guest room art, reflect the influence of science and technology [in Houston].”
In the hotel lobby, a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows will have decorative screening and a dedicated reception area. A new bar will anchor the lounge and have carpeting that incorporates a science and astronomy theme. The meeting and event reception area will be reconfigured to highlight an open mezzanine and soaring grand staircase. Guest rooms will have new bedding and furniture, including sectional sofas in the king rooms, and the bathrooms will be remodeled. The rooftop pool will have new furniture, enabling the space to be used as an evening event area. Situated at the entrance to the Uptown District, the Royal Sonesta is within walking distance of the Galleria complex area and its shops and restaurants. The renovation is expected to be completed by early fall.
