Visitors to the Yellowhammer State’s biggest city can sample from a vast array of entertainment, cuisine, art and nightlife choices. The Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport, less than 10 minutes from downtown, handles 170 flights daily. With 220,000 square feet of exhibition space, the city’s largest meeting facility is the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex. A $70 million Westin Hotel and 50,000-sq.-ft. entertainment district currently are under construction adjacent to the BJCC. The hotel is set to open in fall 2012, with the entertainment district opening shortly thereafter.
